Composition and technology disclosure

All music is human-composed by Aria Starling with occasional lyrics in-progress input from trusted family and friends.

For EDM: Lyrics are hand-written. The overall song-design (e.g. delays, fades) is a lot easier by hand. Melodies without delays and effects are composed in Finale 27 (I know, I know, I know…eventually I’ll switch over to Dorico, but for now, all my money’s going to equipment and software first since Finale still works perfectly fine for my uses and still operates on Tahoe). Vocals are currently recorded using an SM58 dynamic mic with occasional use of a Stellar X condenser mic, through a Scarlett i2i interface into ProTools, where Melodyne Studio is used to snap vocals where desired for choruses. At some point I might train a vocaloid on my own voice, and if I do, then that will be disclosed here.

For non-EDM: Very similar to the above, except some instrumentals may be live-recorded as well. Vocals on non-EDM aren’t tuned in Melodyne (and I don’t currently have anything by Antares, creator of Autotune), though may have removed room reverb or added reverb for effect. For chorus effects, I use Melodyne Studio and iZotope VocalSynth 2.

For all: Digital instruments are composed in Ableton Live 12. Digital drums are all through Steven Slate Drums 5.5, and e-drums go through SSD as well. Bass and guitar are either through Ample or Splice Instruments. Piano is usually through Splice. Native Instruments gets more than an unreasonable amount of money from me as well. Synths and wavetables are entirely Ableton stock. Several pieces of iZotope’s software and plugins are also used. iZotope’s yearly subscription makes access to most of their plugins very reasonable (I don’t work for them and get nothing for saying this, but their software and articles are so incredibly indispensable that I wouldn’t feel right not plugging them for all the credit they’re owed).

As a big believer in credit where credit is due, any other contributors will be given full credit on the pages with their songs with links to their biographies and any social media.
